Yuri “theNERDguy” Dzivielevski Shines at PokerStars

When a superb poker player combines playing well with running hot the results can be devastating. Just ask Yuri “theNERDguy” Dzivielevski who thoroughly enjoyed himself at PokerStars this weekend. The talented Brazilian chopped a $1K event, finished third in another, and finds himself as the Sunday Million chip leader going into day 2.

Dzivielevski Chops Sunday High Roller

Dzivielevski’s first big score came courtesy of a runner-up finish in the $1,050 Sunday High Roller, an 8-max event that drew in a crowd of 159 entrants. This tournament always attracts some of the best players in the world, and this week was no different.

The final table was set when Bert “girafganger7” Stevens busted in ninth place. It was a final table dominated by player who call Brazil home with four of the eight seats filled by Brazilians. Those four samba stars banked four of the top five prizes.

Rodrigo “SELOUAN1991” Selouan and Rodrigo “seijistar” Seiji crashed out in fifth and fourth place for prizes worth $11,488 and $14,848 respectively. Austrian “Old brock” saw their tournament end in a third place finish worth $19,190.

The Austrian’s exit left Dzivielevski heads-up against fellow Brazilian Renan “Internett93o” Bruschi. Dzivielevski and Bruschi struck a deal, which brought the tournament to an earlier conclusion than expected. Bruschi claimed the title and $29,428 with Dzivielevski banking $27,428.

A Near Miss In The Sunday Cooldown

Dzivielevski helped himself to another $6,248 in prize money when he came close to taking down the $1,050 Sunday Cooldown. The Brazilian navigated his way through most of the 57-strong field to take his seat at the final table.

Such luminaries as David “MonkeyBausss” Laka, Teun “tinnoemulder” Mulder, and Jakob “Suceeed” Miegel busted from the eight-handed final table, but there were still plenty of sharks to avoid.

Renan “Internett93o” Bruschi and Tom “Tom_Poker_NL” Talboom busted to leave Dzivielevski three-handed with Bert “girafgnager7” Stevens and Diego “Die Ventura” Ventura. Unfortunately for the Brazilian star, this is where his tournament ended.

Ventura went on to defeat Stevens heads-up to claim the lion’s share of the $57,000 prize pool.

Can Dzivielevski Get The Job Done in the Sunday Million PKO?

This week’s Sunday Million switched to a PKO, 2-day event. Day 1 ended on July 11 with only 58 of the 10,021 entrants having chips in front of them.

Leading those 58 players back into battle is none other than Dzivielevski. He has 4,236,795 chips, which place him narrowly ahead of fellow Brazilian “owitim” on 4,125,206. Dzivielevski already has $1,848 in bounties to his name and is on course to secure the $44,978 top prize. Of course, because of the nature of a PKO event, the winner will walk away with far more money than the first place prize.
