Samuel Stranak Wins 2021 World Series of Poker Europe €2,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Event

The 2021 World Series of Poker Europe €2,000 buy-in pot-limit Omaha event attracted 241 entries. It took just two days to narrow the field down to a champion, with Slovakia’s Samuel Stranak coming away with his first gold bracelet and the top prize of €101,764 ($115,110 USD) as the winner.

This was Stranak’s first major live tournament title, and it resulted in his first six-figure payday. He was also awarded 408 Card Player Player of the Year points after coming out on top. This was his first POY-qualified score of 2021.

The final day of this event began with 46 players remaining, with the UK’s Ian Bradley in the lead. Stranak was one of the very shortest stacks when cards got in the air, but he managed to battle his way into the lead in time for the unofficial final table of nine. He then busted Andriy Lyubovetskiy to extend his advantage heading into the final eight.

Stranak picked up pocket aces against pocket kings to eliminate Ermanno Di Nicola (8th – $11,521 USD). Stanislav Parkhomenko (7th – $14,778) fell at the hands of Vasil Medarov before Stranak secured four consecutive knockouts to take the chip lead into heads-up play with his fellow Slovakian player Alan Sabo.

Stranak sat with just over 7 million when the final showdown began, with Sabo holding 5 million. The two traded the lead a few times in the early going, but Stranak made a hero call with pocket jacks on a king-high board after Sabo missed his straight and flush draws to double back into the lead. From there he extended his advantage to more than 5:1 in time for the final hand of the tournament.

Stranak limped in from the button for 120,000 with KSpade SuitQSpade Suit10Club Suit9Club Suit and Sabo three-bet out of the big blind with ADiamond SuitQDiamond Suit6Spade Suit4Club Suit. Stranak four-bet and Sabo five-bet all-in for just over 1.8 million. Stranak called and the board ran out ASpade Suit10Spade Suit7Heart SuitJDiamond Suit4Heart Suit. Stranak turned the broadway straight and held from there to lock up the pot and the title. Sabo was awarded $71,143 USD as the runner-up finisher.
