Branding at both teams’ venues
The FanDuel Group has unlocked official gaming partner status with MLB’s Detroit Tigers and the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings via a new strategic collaboration with MotorCity Casino.
According to the April 5 news release, FanDuel Sportsbook branding will be “prominently featured” on traditional and digital signage at both the Tigers’ Comerica Park and the Red Wings’ Little Caesars Arena.
FanDuel Sportsbook will also reach Michigan’s sports fans across the airwaves
Branded signage will also appear on dasher boards at Red Wings games and on the outfield wall of Comerica Park. As part of the deal, FanDuel Sportsbook will also reach Michigan’s sports fans across the airwaves through both teams’ radio networks.
Extending existing roots
CMO of FanDuel Group Mike Raffensperger underpinned his firm’s successful launch in Michigan and the continuation of the momentum in the partnership with “two of the most iconic sports organizations in the country.”
“To celebrate” the new tie-up, Raffensperger said in the news release: “we are offering a $25 registration bonus for all eligible Red Wings and Tigers fans that use the code DETROIT after registering for a FanDuel Sportsbook account.”
Both teams are already marketing partners with MotorCity Casino. Comerica Park hosts the MotorCity Casino Tiger Club, which includes MotorCity Casino Hotel’s Off Ramp Bar, while Little Caesars Arena features the MotorCity Casino Club.
In collaboration with the Detroit casino, the FanDuel Group also recently rolled out an integrated, real money iGaming experience for Michiganders and visitors to the Wolverine State. Both the FanDuel Sportsbook & Casino app and the standalone FanDuel Casino app are accessible through iOS and Android devices.
MotorCity Casino and Hotel is also the FanDuel Group’s sports wagering and casino collaborator in Michigan, with the FanDuel Sportsbook launching in Detroit’s only locally owned-and-operated casino in March 2020.
Michigan’s teams going big
In 2020, major league sports franchises reacted to the wildfire growth of legal sports betting markets across US states by agreeing a flurry of partnerships with gambling and fantasy sports operators. Michigan professional sports franchises are no exception.
In December 2020, the NBA’s Detroit Pistons inked a multi-year sports wagering partnership with FanDuel and rival sportsbook DraftKings ahead of the January 22 launch of online sports betting in Michigan.
In the same vein, the Tigers made the news again last week after they inked a multi-year sponsorship deal with BetMGM. The deal handed the New Jersey-based iGaming and sports betting giant the right to feature branded signage at Comerica Park in an almost mirror-image of the official gaming partner rights the Tigers tie-in accorded FanDuel with yesterday.
