Walnut Creek Four-bedroom home completely gutted by fires on sale for $850,000

A ruined California home that was engulfed by two fires and had part of its roof collapsed is now on sale for $850,000.

Although the fires left the Walnut Creek home gutted, the Zillow listing for the property calls the home a ‘bare bones opportunity’ to renovate, rebuilt or restore.

‘This is more than a fixer, and the potential is limited only by imagination,’ the listing says. ‘Opportunities like this are rare.’

The listing tells potential buyers to ‘Bring your contractor, architect, and designer’ to viewings.

The two-story, four-bedroom home, at 254 Tamarisk Dr., suffered from extensive damage when a fire broke out in the garage on Sept. 11.

A second fire broke out three days later when an unknown suspect threw or set a combustible device on the front porch.

No injuries were reported in either case, News 24/680 reported, but the property was left a charred ruin.

The fenced up property stands on a .32 acre lot, with the garage and one side of the house completely destroyed.

The foundation and studs all lie completely exposed, and the overgrown back garden area features a pool and hot tub.

Homes in the Walnut Creek, typical home sells for $1.1 million, with some homes going on sale for as high as sell as $2.87 million.

The homes neighboring the charred residence are valued at more than $1.4 million, nearly twice as much as the asking price.

Rick Smith, of the Santa Clara County Realtors Association, told KTVU that one of the main selling points for the Bay Area homes are their proximity to Silicon Valley and its high-tech employment.

Silicon Valley, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, is home to Apple, Google, Facebook, Visa, Wells Fargo and Chevron.

The Bay Area is among the most expensive places in the world to not only live, but also to build in.

According to Turner & Townsend, San Francisco is now the third most expensive city to do construction in, behind only Tokyo and Hong Kong. San Francisco had the top spot in 2020.

The Walnut Creek house is not the first charred home in the Bay Area to be up for sale at such a high price.

In 2018, a burned down home in Mountain View sold for $1.62 million, more than the $1.5 million asking price, CBS reported.

In 2016, another burnt properly in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood sold for $900,000.
