Utah county CENSURES Mitt Romney for voting to impeach Trump – one week after state tried and failed to do same
- Weber County, Utah on Saturday issued a formal censure of Senator Mitt Romney for voting to convict Donald Trump in his impeachment trials
- The censure, with a 116-97 vote, comes after Romney narrowly avoided a state-wide censure last week from the Utah Republican Party
- Romney was booed at the Utah Republican Party 2021 Organizing Convention last weekend and called a ‘traitor’ and ‘communist’
- Washington County Republicans also censured Romney in April
It continues that the impeachment against Trump ‘denied the President due process, allowed falsified evidence, did not provide adequate time for an investigation, and did not follow the U.S. Constitution which states a President may only be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors.’
Weber County Party Secretary Jill Koford revealed over the weekend that the GOP in the jurisdiction passed the censure resolution 116-97.
The Washington County GOP also voted to censure Romney in April for his votes to convict Trump in both impeachment trials.

Romney has been a divisive figure in the Republican Party over the last few years, especially after breaking with Trump and positioning himself as a moderate senator.
During Utah’s Republican State Convention on May 1, where he narrowly missed a censure vote, Romney was booed by hundreds of delegates as he took the stage for his remarks. He was also called names by audience members like ‘traitor’ and ‘communist.’
While speaking to the two-thousand strong audience, Romney said: ‘Aren’t you embarrassed?’
‘I’m a man who says what he means, and you know I was not a fan of our last president’s character issues,’ he continued.
This spectacle prompted Trump to call Romney a ‘stone cold loser’ in one of his infamous statements from his ‘Save America’ political action committee account.
The resolution to censure Romney at a state-wide level failed 798-711.

Romney blames Trump for the January 6 Capitol attack, joining Democrats and a handful of other Republican lawmakers in claiming the former president incited the rioters.
On Friday, Representative Anthony Gonzalez, a Republican, also faced a censure from the Ohio GOP for voting to impeach Trump.
The former professional football player has been called on by the Ohio Republican Party to resign fully from Congress for joining nine other GOP representatives and seven senators in voting to impeach Trump.
Ohio GOP Chairman Bob Paduchik said in a statement that the censure of Gonzalez ‘addresses an unconstitutional, politically motivated process that served no purpose.’
The Weber County resolution thanks all of its other congress members – Senator Mike Lee and Representatives Chris Stewart, John Curtis, Blake Moore and Burgess Owens – for voting against impeachment.
It says they didn’t give into pressure from the left of charging Trump with ‘politically motivated articles of impeachment.’
