The Block: Vito Guccione reaches breaking point over living room disaster

Heartbreak on The Block as Vito Guccione reaches breaking point when his dream sunken living room is thwarted by a main power line

His wife Tanya is known for causing controversy on The Block, but this week’s episodes will see Vito Guccione reach ‘breaking point’ over a living room disaster.

The 45-year-old will lose his cool after his plans for a sunken lounge are thwarted when he learns a main power line for the whole building runs directly underneath where he wants to build.

He doesn’t realise this until spending hours insulating almost the entire floor, and then faces the daunting task of removing it all and starting over again.

Vito told Monday’s TV Week of the grim discovery: ‘My heart drops. Tan has wanted a sunken living room for the past 20 years, so this is a dream come true for us.’

Sunken rooms – where a living space is a few steps below the rest of the home – can be traced back to the 1920s, but have enjoyed a resurgence of late.

‘When I find out there’s three-phase power running through there, I know what that means: you probably can’t move it at all, or if you can, it’s going to take a long time and cost a lot of money,’ he added.

‘Then when the sub-floor [issue] happened on top of that, I was gutted.’

This setback will prove to be particularly hard for the Gucciones, who were at the centre of a cheating scandal early in the season, and Vito even considers quitting the show altogether.

It comes weeks after the controversial couple were docked two points for a room reveal after their role in ‘whiteboard-gate’ was exposed.

The saga began when someone allegedly broke into host Scott Cam’s office and took a photo of the whiteboard which showed the series’ filming schedule – including the dates of each challenge, private tours and furniture consults.

Anyone who saw the photo would have the advantage of being able to plan their specifications weeks in advance or pre-order something for a specific room.

Ronnie and Georgia Caceres brought the scandal to light, accusing Love Island twins Josh and Luke Packham of showing them a photo of the schedule in question.

Tanya later confessed she was in on it too, but denied taking the photo and placed the blame on an anonymous ‘tradie’.

The Block continues Monday at 7:30pm on Channel Nine
