Terrifying footage has emerged showing a dog in a one-on-one confrontation with kangaroo on a suburban street.

Tiana Liard filmed the shocking moment the dog called Barnie ran over to the monster kangaroo in Golden Bay, 62km south of Perth.

Barnie had been out for a morning stroll with his owner when they encountered the kangaroo.

The cranky kangaroo was standing in an attack position on its hind legs as a brave golden retriever acted a guard dog for the street.

Ms Liard said the confrontation began with the roo swiping at Barnie.

‘The kangaroo gave three or four quick jabs then stood in a threatening stance,’ she said.

In the footage, the pup can be seen approaching the roo multiple times.

But when then the roo stopped fighting back and went back to his owner.

The roo then took the opportunity to bounce out and escaped down the street.

Ms Liard believes the only reason the brave pup backed down from the fight was because his owner and an unnamed man were calling to him.

‘The only reason Barnie ran away was due to a gentleman who was helping the owner get her dog back safely,’ she said.

After close inspection the pup decided the kangaroo wasn't a threat and went back to its owner and the roo took to chance to run
