Teen mom who got pregnant at 13 was targeted by violent trolls

A teen mom has opened up about the hatred she faced when she got pregnant at age 13, revealing online trolls would send her addresses to abortion clinics and messages telling her to ‘die in labor.’

Maddie Lambert, a 17-year-old YouTube star from Fort Worth, Texas, shares her three-year-old daughter, Everly, with her ex-boyfriend Isaac, who was an absentee father for the first 10 months of their little girl’s life.

‘I got pregnant when I was 13,’ she told Truly, saying she had contemplated getting an abortion or putting her daughter up for adoption. ‘[But] literally the second I looked at that ultrasound screen I knew I can’t give up this baby.’

Maddie admitted that before she had Everly, she ‘had always looked down on teen moms,’ explaining that the media’s portrayal of them in reality shows like MTV’s Teen Mom was ‘just really negative.’

‘When I actually got pregnant, I was so scared of the reaction I was going to get, and I did get a lot of negative reactions, a lot of hate,’ she said. ‘Everybody had something to say, and they didn’t hold back.’

‘People would say, “You’re ruining your life,”‘ she continued. ‘I had people send me the address to abortion clinics when I was about seven months pregnant.’

The mother of one recalled how her classmates would put balls under their T-shirts in gym class and walk around, saying: ‘Hi, I’m Maddie Lambert. I’m a teen mom.’

‘Somebody even messaged me saying, “I hope you guys die in labor,”‘ she shared. ‘I took that and I shifted it. I said, “This is making my life.”

‘The hate made me want to do better; it made me want to show them that I’m going to be the best mom ever, even though I’m young.’

Maddie has credited her daughter with giving her life meaning.

‘Everly didn’t only change my life, she saved my life,’ the mom said. ‘I struggled with depression before. I had a suicide attempt when I was 13 before I got pregnant with Everly.

‘I was having trouble finding my place on this Earth and why I was here. When I found that I was pregnant with her, it gave me a reason to fight.’

Maddie’s ex Isaac was 15 when he found out that she was pregnant, but he didn’t believe her at first.

‘I thought it was all just a joke, like it wasn’t real,’ he said. ‘And then when she showed me the scan. I felt scared. I was really scared.’

Isaac asked for a paternity test even though Maddie insisted he was the only person she had ever been with.

‘I just couldn’t accept the fact that it happened, but it happened,’ he said, admitting that he missed the first 10 months of Everly’s life. ‘Maddie had the most hate for me, which was correct. I messed up right there.’

‘I feel like it would just be a lot better if I would have come out, like, “Hey, this is my daughter,”‘ he added.

Despite their past issues, Maddie and Isaac have found a way to co-parent their daughter, knowing it’s what’s best for her.

‘So many people assume I’m a bad mom just because I’m a teenager, but I have the same capacity to parent as anybody [else in] this world,’ she said. ‘A good mom is someone who drops everything for their child — I dropped my whole childhood.

‘I do everything for that little girl. She’s my entire world,’ she added. ‘I feel like she can have such an impact. She wants to be the first astronaut on Jupiter.

‘She’s gonna do it.’
