Tacoma middle school teacher is condemned for handing out flyers telling children they can have an abortion at 11 without parental consent and buy condoms at any age
- A teacher from Tacoma, Washington gave students a flyer to 8th graders that addressed issues of abortion, birth control, consent laws and condoms
- Students at Stewart Middle School received the flyer in science class
- The flyer controversially told students they could get abortions and birth control no matter their age and without asking for their parental consent
- Sheet was handed out to eighth grade students who are around 13/14 years old
- School has explained the mixup as a result of the sheet being left in a binder from previous years when Planned Parenthood speak to students directly
A middle school teacher from Washington State has come in for criticism after handing out flyers that advised students on sex and how to go about getting a abortion, without first getting the consent of parents.
The fact sheet, which was said to have been produced by Planned Parenthood, told eighth-grade kids aged 13 and 14 that they could obtain abortions ‘AT ANY AGE’ and without parental consent.
It went on to state they could also purchase condoms ‘AT ANY AGE’ and that someone could engage in sex as young as 11 so long as their partner was less than two years older than them.
For curious middle schoolers, the flyer details the age of consent and reminds them that anyone 14 or older does not need permission from a parent for STD and HIV testing or treatment.

Eric Hogan, the assistant director of secondary education for the district explained in a letter sent home to parents, how the mistake was made
The school district claims that the distribution of such material was a mistake.
Eric Hogan, the assistant director of secondary education for the district said in a letter sent home to parents that the flyer was only distributed at Stewart Middle School in Tacoma and that ‘corrective action has been taken with this employee.’
Further information on what punishment the teacher faced has not been shared.
‘The flyer is not part of our curriculum and should not have been sent home with students,’ Hogan said.
‘Previously, Planned Parenthood taught within our schools and supplied the flyer that was distributed to students,’ Hogan explained to Fox News.

‘We discovered a binder of curriculum materials was left behind for an incoming teacher to use for this year, and this flyer was in the binder. Not realizing the flyer wasn’t approved material, the teacher sent it home with students.’
The flyer also advised students they would be able to receive a prescription for birth control without a parent’s permission and receive the emergency contraceptive Plan B without a prescription.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) have so far not commented on the incident.
