Stranger Things Season 4 trailers has fans speculating about the big twists and turns

Netflix released a new teaser for Season 4 of Stranger Things earlier this month, which fans have already been dissecting at great length.

The streaming service also released cryptic teaser just a day before the new trailer, and another special video in February 2020, that confirmed Hopper (David Harbour) is in fact still alive, imprisoned in Russia.

The latest trailer has had fans speculating about this long-awaited season, which was delayed significantly due to COVID-19, and all the twists and turns it may contain.

Stranger Things Season 3 ended with the main characters doing battle with the Mind Flayer in the Starcourt Mall.

Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper closed the entrance to the upside down, with the massive explosion it caused leading fans to think that Hopper had died.

The first trailer revealed in February 2020, entitled From Russia With Love, featured a bald Hopper working in a Russian prison labor camp.

The Duffer Brothers also confirmed in a statement with the Hopper teaser that they had started production on Season 4.

‘We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper,’ the creators said.

‘Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human … and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long-buried, something that connects everything…’ the statement added.

‘Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American,’ they concluded.

Many fans have assumed that a large portion of the Season 4 plot very well may be Hopper’s escape from Russia.

Some believe that the reason he wasn’t killed by the explosion in the first place is because he was sucked into the Upside Down.

The post-credits scene of the Season 3 finale hinted he was in a Kamchatka, Russia prison, and revealed they have access to the Upside Down by using demogorgons in the prison.

While fans are certainly relieved that he’s at least alive, it seems that it could be quite the struggle for him to get back to Hawkins, Indiana.

Just a month after starting production, filming was halted due to COVID-19, with filming picking back up in October.

That first video revealed in the description, ‘001/004,’ hinting there would be a total of four teasers in total.

Last month, a much different teaser was released, featuring the control room from the Hawkins National Laboratory, with the description hinting they will be ‘back in service tomorrow at 9:00 AM ET,’ when the latest trailer was released.

While the control room teaser didn’t offer much, it did showcase shots from the security cameras, which hints that violence may have happened at the lab.

The first few shots were rather innocuous, though later shots indicated some struggle, including a chess board with pieces all over the board, a bloody Magic 8-Ball and other blood-soaked locales.

While none of the inhabitants of the Lab were seen, some have speculated these bloody shots could indicate that the others in the lab like Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) could have staged a revolt against their captors.

Others believe the bloody objects could be just proof that the subjects are being trained to wreak havoc over Hawkins, though it’s too soon to tell.

The trailer released a day later followed the pattern from the February 2020 video, with the description reading solely, ‘002/004,’ hinting there are two more teasers coming.

The 69-second video features a clock striking 3, along with shots of two gown-clad children with shaved heads chasing cars around a rainbow pattern on the floor.

There are also other kids playing a makeshift Plinko game and others playing chess, while another child turns over a Magic 8-Ball, which reads ‘Signs point to yes.’

The Plinko chip lands in the 7 slot, right next to the unoccupied 5 and 6… which add up to Eleven.

Then fans were given quite the surprise when a figure which appears to be Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) is seen walking into the room, stating, ‘Good Morning Children,’ as they respond in unison, ‘Good morning, Papa.’

While Brenner was believed to have died at the end of Season 1, there were hints in Season 2 and Season 3 that he was still alive, with creators Matt and Ross Duffer also confirming that he was alive.

While Brenner remains in the room, the camera moves down the hall to a room marked 11, seemingly the room Eleven stayed in before her escape.

Brenner tells the children he has, ‘something very special planned for you,’ as the trailer ends with Brenner saying, ‘Eleven, are you listening?’

The final shot shows Eleven opening her eyes in a panic, which has lead to multiple theories.

Some wonder if the scene with Brenner was a flashback to Eleven’s time at the Hawkins National Laboratory, while others speculate that the scenes are in present day, and are being trained to track down Eleven.
