A squirrel proved it was nuts about chocolate when it was caught on camera stealing Snickers bars.

Doorbell footage shows the cheeky rodent snatching the peanut and caramel candy bars from outside a house in Libertyville, Illinois.

The Christmas treats, which had been left on the front porch for delivery drivers, had started to go missing and a mother and daughter were determined to catch the thief.

This is the hilarious moment a squirrel is caught on camera stealing Snickers bars left outside a house as Christmas treats for delivery drivers in Libertyville, Illinois

At the beginning of the video, the mother says: ‘Oh my, someone took a s*** ton of Snickers. Oh my God yeah, I put like seven out there.’

The pair inspect the porch, but realise that no deliveries have been made during the day.

The mother ironically makes a statement saying she hopes the culprit isn’t a squirrel as her daughter replies: ‘A squirrel?’

The video then cuts to footage of the squirrel emerging from a bush before climbing into the basket full of treats.

The squirrel, in an attempt to ‘get some nuts’, grabs a Snickers bar and makes a quick getaway.

Another said: ‘There is a tree in your yard with seven snickers in it and I can’t stop laughing about that.’

The daughter who posted the video said: ‘We leave treats for the delivery drivers during the holiday season.

‘My mother and I were leaving to run errands and she noticed a bunch of snickers were gone even though nothing had been delivered.

‘She had suspicions that it was squirrels and my dad and I kept laughing at her because we thought it was one of the kids or a neighbour.

‘We went back inside and checked the Ring and it was the squirrels!’

Squirrels have a varied diet including nuts, fruits and fungi, but it would appear this squirrel has developed a sweet tooth.
