In February, Simon spoke out about breaking his back for the first time since the shock incident, revealing: ‘I nearly smashed my spine to pieces!’

The TV star boss admitted that he ‘couldn’t have gotten through’ it without girlfriend Lauren and their son Eric, seven, who sweetly branded him ‘iron man’ when he first saw his dad with metal rods and screws in his back following surgery.

Speaking to ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour on Extra, Simon said at the time: ‘It could have been a lot worse. When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly could have smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk.’

Simon explained, ‘You’re not supposed to move,’ but, that wasn’t his thought process at the time.

He continued: ‘I was thinking, “I’ve got to get back into the house because I can’t lie there”… and made myself kind of get carried into my bedroom, which is right there at the beginning of the house… And I’m lying there and I’m kind of passing out… It was surreal.’
