SeaAmour Wellness collagen owner reveals why she made the brand

An ex spa owner and devoted mother has launched a new business selling marine collagen powder after a fateful trip to Scandinavia opened her eyes to a whole new world of skincare.

Kate Sultana, 43, was the proud owner and operator of an Endota Spa in Victoria for four years before selling it on when she got pregnant with her daughter in 2015.

When her long-wished for daughter turned four Ms Sultana struggled to reconcile with the mother she saw in the mirror and the hard-working woman who had run a successful spa leading a team of ten employees.

So she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and booked a ticket to Iceland, where she found inspiration for a new business endeavour selling a rejuvenating powder.

‘I loved the bare roots of Endota. We offered certified organic products in the most relaxing environment taking care of people. We were committed to offering the best products and from natural sources,’ Ms Sultana told FEMAIL.

‘After trying for a baby for 10 years at age 37 my daughter was born. When she was four I realised I had lost my sense of self.

‘I was a driven hard-working person with a successful busy spa leading a team of ten employees then suddenly I found myself sitting on the couch in the middle of winter breastfeeding a baby on a property in regional Victoria.

‘I went from busy business owner to mother feeding a baby every 2.5 hours a day.

‘That led me to embark on a trip over to Iceland and Norway in 2019. It was exactly what I needed. There I realised how pure the water was and the Scandi lifestyle was nothing like I had experienced before.

‘Fresh fish, thousand-year-old glaciers, silica filled lagoons, geothermal heat…cooking from geysers in the ground, it was like I had landed on another planet.’

While on her travels Ms Sultana aligned with a company who manufactures a variety of products, one being marine collagen from a pure source.

From there her SeaAmour Wellness brand was born.

‘I was so excited to share the purity of our product and ultimately empower women to fall in love with themselves again by supplementing their diet with the purest of marine collagen peptides from Norway,’ she said.

The product itself is made by catching sustainable wild cod in the Atlantic ocean. Each catch is traceable back to the fishing vessel and only mature cod fish are caught.

From there the process becomes scientific, with Ms Sultana’s team undergoing a lengthy collagen production process.

‘There we use age old methods of drying out the skins and then extract the collagen peptides and lightly add an enzyme so our bodies can absorb the collagen peptides,’ she said.

One of the advantages of fish collagen is that it has a particularly high content of the amino acid’s glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.

The amino acids stimulate cells in the skin, bones and connective tissues and may lead to the production of new collagen.

When ingested early studies have shown that ingestible collagen products can reach the skin under laboratory conditions.

While other brands are making millions selling collagen products, Ms Sultana says it’s important to check the label thoroughly – and ensure you’re getting the best dose.

‘Other brands may use inferior fish from fish farms in other countries or have fillers or flavours to mask the poor quality,’ she said.

Why does SeaAmour Marine Collagen have no flavour?

The way we process our wild cod fish is through an enzymatic hydrolysis process.

The product loses its gelling effect and becomes water-soluble and in turn tasteless in coffee, juice, smoothies and tea however if you mix with water, you will get a mild fishy taste… but we hope you do as it’s from wild cod fish after all.

Collagen peptides are a hydrolysed form of collagen, which is a unique oligopeptide supplying the necessary amino acids for the development of collagen in human connective tissues and skin.

Collagen peptides are highly digestible and suitable as an oral supplement. Studies show that collagen peptides have a better bioavailability in the human body than gelatine, due to the difference in molecular size.

‘If another collagen brand does not list what type of fish or where it was sourced or the amount of collagen peptides, then that’s a big red flag to determine it is not a good source of marine collagen.

‘Our marine collagen peptides are single ingredient pure peptides at 5000mg per serve, other companies have a 3000mg serve along with other ingredients which means you must take twice sometimes three times as much of their product to see any results.’

Since launching in July 2021 Ms Sultana has sold 2,000 units of product at expos, business events and hotels.

‘We have two more products in the pipeline that we are really excited about. We are just waiting on timing to launch these new products,’ she said.
