‘I lost it all – my career, my kids, my marriage’: Sam Burgess breaks down in tears over his divorce in emotional new trailer for SAS Australia

NRL great Sam Burgess will discuss his divorce from ex-wife Phoebe in the upcoming series of Channel Seven’s SAS: Australia.

In a trailer for the new season, the former South Sydney Rabbitohs star, 32, admits during an interrogation he ‘lost respect’ for himself when his marriage fell apart.

Chief instructor Ant Middleton says: ‘Not a lot of people are honest with themselves. It takes something extraordinary to find out who they really are.’

As he’s forced into a chair for his interrogation with the SAS soldiers, he describes himself as a broken man.

‘I lost my career, my kids and my marriage. I’ve lost it all. I obviously lost respect for myself,’ he tells Ant and his fellow Directing Staff.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Sam admits he is ‘scared of the dark’ as he crawls through a tunnel during a military-style operation.

The South Sydney captain retired from NRL due to a shoulder injury back in 2019.

A year later he finalised his divorce from wife-of-five-years Phoebe, who is the mother of his two children, daughter Poppy, four, and son Billy, two.

Sam is one of the most famous recruits on this year’s season of SAS Australia.
