Sam Newman was involved in a boating accident on Monday.

The AFL great revealed the nautical mishap occurred when he tried to reverse his boat Sea Sea Rider using a remote control, which resulted in the vessel lurching forward and colliding with another craft and a wharf.

‘I’m happy to say I’m simple and I was incompetent,’ the 75-year-old told his co-hosts Don Scott and Rod Law on his podcast You Cannot Be Serious on Tuesday.

Sam went on to explain the turn of events which resulted in the collision.

‘When you turn the remote device around in your hand it then reverses what you think is going forward and what you think is going back,’ he explained.

Sam added that he put the boat halfway into a space when he thought to reverse the vessel.

‘And then what I did was push it forward and it sped into the wharf and into someone else’s boat,’ he said.
