‘I’m a politician out of the womb. It’s in my DNA,’ the 35-year-old told The New York Post.
‘Giuliani vs. Cuomo. Holy smokes. Its Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. We can sell tickets at Madison Square Garden,’ Giuliani continued, making reference to the 1971 heavyweight title prizefight.
‘I know we can defeat Andrew Cuomo in 2022. I am going to be the 57th governor of New York,’ he said.
Giuliani’s father, Rudy, was mayor of New York City from 1994-2001 and joined former President Donald Trump‘s personal legal team in 2018 and helped argue claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
The junior Giuliani served for four years as a White House aide to Trump and became outspoken last month after his father’s New York City apartment was raided by the FBI to seize laptops and cellphones related to an investigation against him.
Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, is officially launching a bid for the Republican primary to become governor of New York
Giuliani said current Governor Andrew Cuomo is responsible for the deaths of 9,000 nursing home residents. In March 2020, Cuomo started requiring facilities to accept those recovering from COVID back into the facilities
Giuliani’s newly launched campaign website explains of his time in the White House: ‘He then joined the Trump administration as Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison in 2017. In 2019, he was promoted to Special Assistant to the President. His role consisted of working with high-level business leaders and CEOs to help President Trump and his Cabinet Secretaries craft policy, specifically including the 2017 tax cuts, the deregulation of businesses of all sizes, and was proud of his work on the Opioid task force.’
‘In his final year at the White House,’ his bio continues, ‘Andrew was directly involved with several initiatives that saved millions of American jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic.’
‘He collaborated with the Department of Treasury and business leaders to craft the Paycheck Protection Program and worked to vet and shape President Trump’s Great American Reopening Committee.’
The candidate said the gubernatorial race will be another ‘Fight of the Century’, and is confident he can knock out veteran GOP competition in Representative Lee Zeldin and current three-term incumbent Democrat Governor Cuomo.
Cuomo is currently riddled with scandals – mostly involving his interaction with young women both in and out of the office, but also for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic in the nation’s most populated city.
In March 2020, Cuomo issued a controversial order requiring nursing homes in the state to accept recovering COVID patients discharged from hospitals. Giuliani called this ‘the worst’ policy in state history.
The move is now under investigation as it appears there was evidence this would lead to much higher rates of infection and death in care facilities for the elderly – who are among the most at risk of dying after contracting coronavirus.
New York Republican Representative Lee Zeldin has already announced he is running for governor in the state and has won a lot of support from local GOP leaders
‘It was Andrew Cuomo’s actions that killed 9,000 senior citizens in nursing homes in New York. He should have resigned,’ Giuliani said. ‘Cuomo didn’t use the USS Comfort ship or the Javits Center to house seniors with COVID. He didn’t want to give President Trump a political victory.’
Giuliani has never run for public office.
‘It would be one of the epic showdowns in the state’s history,’ Giuliani assured the Post.
He also said he would run as the candidate of change with a pro-business, pro-police and pro-school choice platform.
So far, the only other Republican who has officially announced a run for governor in the Empire State is Congressman Lee Zeldin, who currently represents New York 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Zeldin has already secured a good amount of support from Republican leaders in the state, but Giuliani says he’s not fazed.
‘I believe we have the best chance to win if I’m the Republican candidate in November. It’s not even close,’ he said.
‘You’re going to have more enthusiasm in the race.’
Giuliani vowed to visit all 62 counties in the state during his campaign to clinch the Republican nomination.
Embattled Cuomo has not said if he will officially run for a fourth term in 2022 and no other Democrats have entered the race as of yet.

Cuomo on Monday again denied allegations of sexual harassment, but in the same breath joked about having an ‘intimate’ relationship with New York’s Health Commissioner Howard Zucker.
‘There is a legal definition of harassment that is very clear. All I was saying is just making someone uncomfortable does not mean sexual harassment,’ Cuomo said during a press briefing at Radio City Music Hall to clarify comments made last week that appeared to dismiss allegations against him.
‘I’m going to tell you the truth and the facts about this entire situation that has been, I think, distorted in the press and manipulated, and when the time is right, I will tell you the truth and the facts and I am very much looking forward to it,’ Cuomo continued.
Asked whether he has ever had an intimate or sexual relationship with a state worker, the governor scoffed: ‘Intimate, you mean sexual relationship? Intimate has a number of manifestations.’
Cuomo then turned to Zucker, chuckled and said: ‘I think we have an intimate relationship, don’t you think? Yeah, not a sexual relationship.’
He then clarified ‘no’ to the original question before turning toward Zucker again and saying with a laugh: ‘Made you uncomfortable with that question, didn’t I?’
Cuomo is facing several probes and an impeachment inquiry related to his conduct after multiple women accused him of inappropriate behavior.
Accusers include a current staffer who claims he groped her last year at the Executive Mansion in Albany.
Cuomo continues to insist that just because he makes someone uncomfortable doesn’t mean he ‘harassed’ them.
It’s not clear if he will seek another gubernatorial term as he continues to face controversy.
A Republican has not won a statewide election in New York since the mid 1990s, when George Pataki denied the current governor’s father, Mario Cuomo, a fourth term as New York governor. Pataki served three terms until 2006.
Giuliani said he spoke to Pataki about launching a bid.
Lawyers for the candidate’s 76-year-old father filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan court on Monday accusing federal investigators of secretly obtaining access to the lawyer’s online storage account, Apple’s iCloud, in 2019.
Rudy Giuliani’s lawyers made their their first filing after the FBI raided his office on April 28, raising concerns about what they called a ‘covert warrant’ to search his Apple iCloud
They also claim investigators were acting as if they were taking down a dangerous terrorist or drug cartel leader.
‘The validity of the 2019 covert warrant, and the handling of the information obtained by the prosecutor are serious questions that must be resolved before any further damage is done,’ the senior Giuliani’s lawyer Robert Costello said.
The subject of such warrants is contentious among online privacy campaigners and data storage companies. The Justice Department only allows such searches when there is concern evidence may be destroyed or witnesses intimidated.
Federal authorities are probing whether Rudy Giuliani illegally lobbied the Trump administration in 2019 on behalf of Ukrainian figures.
Last month they seized electronic devices from his Manhattan office in a dawn raid.
Since then, aides close to Trump suggest the former president has been cool on riding to the rescue of his former adviser and lawyer, and is reluctant to issue a statement of support while investigators close in.
After the raid, Andrew Giuliani came out in fiery public remarks on the streets of New York City defending his father, which was widely shared on social media.
