Radio host breaks down in tears as she reveals fertility struggle

Radio host breaks down in tears as she reveals fertility struggle she hid from her friends and family for ’10 months’

Radio presenter Gabi Elgood couldn’t hold back her tears as she discussed her quiet fertility struggles during a live radio show this week.

The Hit103.1 Townsville’s breakfast host made the emotional confession to her co-host Guy Clifton on Monday morning’s Cliffo and Gabi, after keeping it a secret from friends and family for ’10 months’ in a bid to surprise them with pregnancy news.

The 33-year-old admitted she now regrets her decision to stay silent, after finding the devastating experience and lack of support so isolating.

Gabi, who is engaged to Nev Andrews, said: ‘I was really excited about the idea of surprising everyone with that news.

‘I did not realise when we had the conversation 10 months ago that it would be such an emotional journey.

‘Now that it’s been a while and it hasn’t happened I really wish I hadn’t kept it to myself, because I’ve actually needed that support network and I haven’t had it there.’

Through tears, she added: ‘I think it’s something that needs to be spoken about more. I actually regret keeping this secret.’

Gabi went on to say she getting her period each month felt like a ‘kick in the guts’, as she explained that both she and her partner had undergone fertility testing.

‘I know so many people who have struggled with fertility … but when you first have that conversation you just have that faith that it’ll be easy and it’ll happen because you want it to,’ she continued.

‘The excitement starts to wane and the sadness grows and you are thinking “what if”.’

Gabi went on to say that the test results said the couple can fall pregnant, but are not yet at the point of beginning fertility treatment.

She said she wanted to tell her story in a bid to speak out about their own struggles.
