Penny McNamee announces her shock exit from Home and Away after five years on the long-running soap – and says her character’s fairytale wedding is the ‘perfect send-off’


Actress Penny McNamee is leaving Home and Away. 

The 38-year-old, who has played Dr. Tori Morgan on the hit show since 2016, told Who magazine that she decided to leave to focus on her singing career and spend more time with her family. 

She said she was happy with the way her character’s storyline ends – a dream wedding and move to London

‘Who doesn’t love a wedding storyline? It’s the perfect send-off for my character,’ Penny told the publication. 

‘I’m not someone who looks backwards. I’m a real believer in everything has its season and leaving the show felt like the end of a season to me.’

Penny added that she is ‘hugely grateful’ for her time on the show after making her debut on the soap in 2016.

She said she loved playing a female doctor on the soap and will miss her co-stars and the crew, especially James Stewart who would make her ‘belly laugh’ all day.

Penny said she’s looking forward to spending more time with her family at home and will look at work next year.

She also revealed she is focusing on her singing career after starting out in musical theatre.

Penny’s character will tie the knot onscreen on September 27 – in what is being dubbed as the ‘wedding of the year’. 

Tori will marry her doctor partner Christian, played by Ditch Davey.

A teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated episode was released on Wednesday, showing a montage of the onscreen couple’s most romantic moments.

Later in the trailer, Tori was seen walking down the aisle in a stunning white lace wedding dress. 

As she walked towards Christian at the outdoor ceremony, the nervous groom turned around, before breaking into a relieved grin.

‘I didn’t find true love. It found me,’ Tori said in a voiceover. 

Tori and Christian’s wedding will air on Channel Seven’s Home and Away on Monday, September 27 at 7pm.
