Penelope Cruz stuns in elegant 1970s-style gown with shimmering dots as she stops to stroke dog

Penelope Cruz looked every inch the glamorous film star as she took some time out to pet a dog on the set of L’Immensita in Rome on Thursday.

The actress, 47, was seen in a long blue dress with silver polka dots which shimmered in the daylight.

The Spanish star smiled as she knelt down on one knee to stroke the pooch, as it walked about on set.

The screen siren recreated 70s glamour with her attire, with shoulder pads and a plunging neckline to leave her decolletage on show.

She wore a pair of flip flops on her feet, leaving her skin exposed to the warm summer air in the Italian capital.

Penelope plays Clara in the Emanuele Crialese-directed movie, a mother who is the central character of the story.

Written by Emanuele, Francesca Manieri (The First King) and Vittorio Moroni (Terraferma), L’Immensita will give a portrait of a family in the 1970s during a turning point of Italian society.

‘L’immensita is the story of a symbiotic love, the one between Clara and her children, set in Rome in the ’70s; a world suspended between neighborhoods under construction and TV shows still in black and white, new social achievements and old family models,’ Emanuele told Variety earlier this year.

He said Penelope’s character embodies ‘an archetype that can only come to life through the artistic and human encounter with the sensitivity of a great actress like Penelope Cruz’.

Of her appearance, Penelope said: ‘I have been a fan of Emanuele Crialese for a long time and ‘L’immensita’ is one of the best scripts I have ever read.

‘I’m looking forward to jumping into this magical adventure with him and the rest of the team and to give life to a character I’m completely in love with.’

Penelope is a mother herself, sharing children Leo, 10, and Luna, eight, with husband Javier Bardem, 52, who she married in 2010.

The Hollywood star recently spoke about her family life and approach to motherhood in an interview with Marie Claire Greece.

She said that she and her husband are careful not to let their careers seep into their family life.

‘Like any couple, we talk about our jobs, and consequently about our characters, about the way we handle this or that scene,’ she clarified.

‘Sometimes we exchange ideas, but when it comes to our jobs generally, we’re not obsessed with work, we try to leave it at the door of the house.’

Penelope also revealed that motherhood made her less worried about other people’s opinions, confessing: ‘When I was young, the way others saw me, be it positive or negative, had an enormous importance.’

She continued: ‘But becoming a mother made me aware that this was the most important mission of my life and that I wanted to accomplish it as best I could.’
