Paul Gascoigne, 53, looks comfortable yet smart in shorts and a shirt following Italian reality show

He finished the reality TV show, L’Isola dei Famosi, prematurely after suffering from a shoulder injury on the island.

And Paul Gascoigne combined comfort with style in navy shorts and a shirt on Friday as he embraced normality following his appearance on the Italian reality show.

The football ace, 53, swept his silver locks back in a neat hairdo and rocked a trim beard as he relaxed on a sofa for a candid photoshoot in the European city.

Paul partially rolled his sleeves up, revealing some of his tattoos and silver jewellery including a timeless watch.

The former footballer appears to be settling back into daily life after he was forced to quit the reality series in April when he sustained an injury in an endurance game.

The exit came just one month after he made his debut on the show, and he appeared to be on the mend as he posed at the shoot without his arm brace.

Previously, the former Tottenham Hostpur ace had revealed he would be willing to return to the programme despite his accident.

Last month, the star said he was ‘quite good’ and added that his shoulder was ‘so, so’ as the presenter Ilary Blasi asked for updates on his health condition.

However, he was seen appearing on the show with his arm in a sling, and in recent images taken at a hotel, he was seen sporting the protective aid once more.

The sports legend was said to be facing ‘mental challenges’ as his injury forced him out of competing in physical games on the show, before his official exit.

According to The Sun, Paul said: ‘It hurts when I hear people say things like this, especially as when we arrived we were all friends and now people are against each other.

‘I had 30,000 angry people every weekend saying, ”You fat b*****d”. So you think two or three people moaning about me behind my back is going to hurt me? No, I’m just going to laugh.’

The media personality was reportedly paid around 7,000 euros (£5,981) for each week he took part in the show.

When Paul appeared on Good Morning Britain earlier this month to talk about his time on L’Isola dei Famosi,  presenter Adil Ray was criticised by viewers for his ‘inappropriate’ joke amid the footballer’s battle with alcoholism.

The host, 47, asked the sporting star how he can remember Italian after playing for football team Lazio in the 90s and after having a ‘few tipples’ in his life.

Paul has been in and out of rehab due to alcohol-related problems since retiring from football in 2004.

Talking after his impressive language skills, Adil made an ‘inappropriate’ joke as he said: ‘Thanks for translating the Susanna [Reid] bit because I wasn’t sure what that was. Gazza, it’s amazing, though.

‘You spent how many years – three seasons, three years and that’s where you picked [speaking Italian] up and held onto it.

‘That was quite some time ago as well and you’ve had a few tipples since then as well so to keep that in you is really impressive!’
