Patrick Mahomes might NOT be at 100 percent for Chiefs in Super Bowl, admits owner Clark Hunt

Patrick Mahomes was officially left off the Chiefs injury list ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl – but it doesn’t mean he is 100 percent healthy.
That’s according to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, who has spoken about the condition of the star quarterback ahead the hotly anticipated game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Phoenix, Arizona.
‘The great thing is Patrick’s a very fast healer, and he was able to get ready to play the AFC Championship game, you know, in a week on that high ankle sprain and did just an amazing job, including making the pivotal play at the end of the game that helped us win it on his legs,’ Hunt said.
‘He’s doing great this week. I don’t know that he’ll be 100 percent, but he sure isn’t going to tell you otherwise.’
The 27-year-old quarterback sustained a high ankle sprain in the Chiefs’ 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the divisional round of the playoffs and was limited in his ability to run against the Bengals in the AFC title win (23-20).

Mahomes has trained all week and is set to play through any pain for the game in Phoenix
But Mahomes, who scooped up the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award Thursday, practiced every day this week in the build up to the big game and was cleared for action Sunday.
Indeed, Clark’s remarks are more about the capacity Mahomes will be able to operate at against one of the sternest defenses in the NFL, rather than if he will play at all.
He had played down the injury concerns earlier in the week, insisting that he will try to play with ‘no restrictions’ in Arizona.
‘I don’t know if I’ll necessarily test it, but I’m going to try to have no restrictions,’ Mahomes said of his ankle on Tuesday.
‘Even in the AFC Championship game, I was trying to test it in and practice on it and do different kinds of stuff, but if there would be a play maybe if I was rolling out where I would kind of ease up on it.
‘Whereas this week I’m going to try to push it and try to be as close to 100 percent. Obviously, I’m not trying to tweak it or anything like that.’
Victory on Sunday for Mahomes would be his second Super Bowl title. Earlier this week Mahomes dominated the voting for the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award.
Mahomes, who also won in 2018, easily outdistanced Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, receiving 48 of 50 first-place votes from a nationwide panel of media members who regularly cover the league.
He earned 490 points to 193 for Hurts, who got one first-place vote, 26 seconds, 11 thirds and 10 fourths.
‘I want to thank God for giving me this platform and putting so many amazing people around me to help support this dream I’ve had since I was a little kid. Without Him none of this would even be possible,’ Mahomes said in a videotaped speech.

Speaking in the week, Mahomes was confident the injury would not hold him back on Sunday

‘To my wife, Brittany, baby girl, Sterling and my son, Bronze, this crazy life that we are living is nothing without y’all keeping me balanced and making me appreciate every single day.
‘No matter how I feel coming home, y’all bring me joy and make me appreciate the time I get to spend with y’all. Thank you for always being there for me; through my good times and my bad. Love y’all.
‘To my family; my mom, my dad, my brother and sister – thank you for supporting me every day and telling me since I was a little kid, to follow my dreams.
‘To the Chiefs organization; Clark Hunt, Brett Veach, Andy Reid, the staff, and most of all, my teammates. I would never be standing here today without y’all.
‘Every day giving everything that we have together to go for the ultimate goal; the Super Bowl. Let’s continue to go for that dream this weekend.’
