Twitter followers were quick to note that the eyes were an implied reference to the affair she had with then-President Bill Clinton

‘Kinda perfect tweet’, one user summed up Lewinsky’s retort.

‘You owe me a new keyboard,’ wrote Eric Alper, implying he likely spat out his drink after reading the tweet.

‘We don’t deserve you,’ tweeted Bridget Phetasy.

‘The entire country owes you an apology,’ added another user. 

Ms Lewinsky was just 21 at the time of the affair. She has spoken of the regret she felt over the situation in the decades since.

In 2018, she described what took place as an ‘abuse of power’.  

‘There are even some people who feel my White House experiences don’t have a place in this movement, as what transpired betweenBill Clinton and myself was not sexual assault, although we now recognize that it constituted a gross abuse of power,’ she wrote in an article for Vanity Fair in 2018.

Clinton’ initially denied the extra-marital encounter but was then charged with two articles of impeachment; obstruction of justice and perjury for lying under oath to federal judges after it emerged he did indeed have sexual relations with Lewinsky, and then lied about it.

Clinton was later acquitted by the Senate.
