Moment gang of six attack victim, 33, with sticks, bottles and ROCKS as they try to steal his bike


A cyclist was attacked by a group of six thugs attempting to steal his bike by throwing rocks and hitting him with sticks – as New York’s crime wave persists.

The New York City Police department released security footage of the moment the gang of six individuals push the 33-year-old off of his bike.

The cyclist had been making his way along the sidewalk in the vicinity of East 152 Street and Tinton Avenue in the Bronx around 12.30pm on October 14 when he was attacked.

In the footage, the gang tried to pick the bike up off the floor after having pushed the cyclist.

With the 33-year-old refusing to give up his property to the group, the thugs leave and return with objects to be used to try and take the bike by force.

Despite their attack, the group were unable to take the bike from the cyclist and fled down the road. 

Police have said the victim was hit with ‘various objects including sticks, bottles, and unknown cutting instruments’.

They added: ‘The victim sustained lacerations to the forearm and was removed by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in stable condition.’

The security footage and images of six people wanted in connection with the attack have been released by the police as they appeal for information.

The attempted bike theft is the latest incident in a string of crimes to have plagued New York over the last year. 

Over the weekend, a thief who tried to rob a smoke shop in the Bronx found himself pinned to the floor and beaten up by members of staff.

New York Police Department are currently appealing for help in finding the man who attempted to attack the Convenience Smoke Shop, in the Kingsbridge Heights district on Saturday night at around 11:40pm.

The man, in a grey hoodie, was caught on security footage walking into the store and demanding money.

When he attempted to leap over the counter, the two men working in the store hauled him to the ground and pummeled him with their fists – the battered thief then apparently ran away.

No injuries were reported and the NYPD is offering a reward of $3,500 for information that leads to the man’s arrest.

Earlier this month, the NYPD released its crime statistics for September 2021, and according to their data, the city has had 1,526 shooting victims this year through October 17, nearly double the amount of gun violence victims through the same time as 2019, which had 760. There were 1,507 shooting victims through October 17 of last year. 

The data recorded 89 shooting victims 17-years-old and younger from January 1 to September 26 of this year. In 2019, there were 45 shooting victims 17-years-old and younger during the same time period. 

Of those injured in shootings, 16 young people were killed by gun violence between January 1 and September 26 – an increase of more than 136% compared with the same time period in 2019, when three children or teens were killed.
