Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli lashes out at the editing on The Celebrity Apprentice

A second Celebrity Apprentice star has blasted the show for its manipulative editing, after The Veronicas spent the last two weeks whingeing about their ‘villain’ portrayal.

Radio presenter Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli claimed on Wednesday he was also the victim of unfair editing.

The 41-year-old said Tuesday’s episode of the Nine program had been edited to make it look like he confessed to having gastro on air, when in fact he said no such thing.

‘I never said that!’ On his radio show on Wednesday, Nova star Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli lashed out at the editing on The Celebrity Apprentice – after The Veronicas slammed the show for their ‘villainous’ portrayal

Wippa played soundbites from the show on Fitzy and Wippa and claimed they were proof producers had mashed his words together to change their meaning.

This technique is known in the TV industry as ‘frankenbiting’.

He said: ‘When people go on reality TV shows and complain about the edit, everyone goes “edit edit edit” and they say “but you said it”. [But] it was taken out of context.

‘Last night there was an edit that was done on me where it made me sound like I said I had gastro. I never ever said I had gastro, in fact I said, “They said it could be gastro, I don’t have gastro.”‘

He then played a soundbite from Celebrity Apprentice in which he clearly said ‘I’m pretty sure I have gastro’ – but insisted this quote was actually pieced together from different audio snippets.

Of all things! Speaking on his Nova radio show on Wednesday, the 41-year-old said that on Tuesday's episode, he was made to look like he said he had gastro on air, when really he didn't

‘Have a listen to the edit here where they take the part where I said “I don’t have gastro” and they just took the gastro line and put it on the end of another sentence,’ Wippa said, as his co-host Fitzy laughed.

It comes after The Veronicas duo Jess and Lisa Origliasso have vented their frustrations over the editing on The Celebrity Apprentice.

They have publicly criticised Nine on several occasions for what they perceive to be sensationalist editing techniques.

Last week, they posted an open letter to social media in which they accused producers of hiring them under false pretences.

‘You signed us up for your show under the guise of charity and heart,’ they wrote.

‘Our genuine intentions and passion reduced to an edit – portraying us strong-arming other team members and outwardly using our mother’s condition for sympathy is disgusting’ they added.

Lisa and Jessica’s mother, Colleen, has Lewy body dementia and a rare neurological condition called progressive supranuclear palsy.

The sisters, who are carers for their mum, are appearing on Celebrity Apprentice to raise money for The Brain Foundation.

Their open letter continued: ‘It was you who constantly asked us to reiterate our charity and why we were there and you turn around and weaponise our words and our mummy’s name – turning them into a knife used to stab us in the heart.

‘Shame on you.’

‘What you have done to us is gut wrenching, soul destroying and the lowest thing you could ever do to us as women, daughters and carers,’ they added.

‘You have used us at the most fragile time in our lives. This was never a game to us, this is our reality we were fighting for.’

They wrote: ‘The fact you edited out all the facts, so we become entitled brats – expecting favours and using our mum’s condition for benefit is truly the lowest you could have gone. I hope you pay your editors well for the souls they sell.

‘The fact they have edited this to seem like emotional manipulation and blackmailing people for sympathy is awful. Being gaslit on an edit over something so close to our hearts is beyond comprehension.

‘We are grateful there was money made for all the charities involved.’
