Lisa Snowdon, 49, says she ’embraces’ her wrinkles and was ‘alarmed’ by young girls having Botox

Lisa Snowdon believes lockdown has made people realise they no longer need to alter their looks – and she prefers to ’embrace’ signs of ageing.

The TV presenter, 49, told MailOnline she doesn’t want to ‘eradicate’ her wrinkles by having cosmetic procedures and she was desperate to intervene as so many young girls with ‘beautiful skin’ opted for Botox.

In an exclusive interview, the former model said she feels ‘positively’ about her upcoming 50th birthday because she doesn’t view the milestone age as a ‘looming deadline.’

‘I’m all about enhancing what you’ve got’: Lisa Snowdon believes lockdown has made people realise they no longer need to alter their looks – and she prefers to ’embrace’ signs of ageing

Lisa said: ‘It’s down to the individual if they want to go down that route but I think there are other things you can do to improve the tone and texture of your skin with slightly less downtime.

‘It’s about skin health and not about eradicating lines it’s about softening them and hydrating them and working with good ingredients to feed the skin.

‘That was a trend for a while which was quite alarming, especially because the girls were so young, I used to think “oh my God, you’re so young, your skin is so beautiful”, especially when it was a lot of makeup as well. I would think “let your beautiful, natural skin shine through.”

‘But the trend has shifted and the pandemic has taught us how to be a bit introspective and grateful for the smaller things and not being so obsessed with trying to change our appearance. I am all about enhancing what you’ve got in a natural way.’

Lisa, who regularly presents the fashion segment on This Morning, admits seeing her face for the first time on Zoom in lockdown made her feel self-conscious, and she uses a light to enhance the way she looks on camera.

She said: ‘Last year I didn’t even know what Zoom was and all of sudden everybody can see you, your background and into your house and some days I did feel… it’s been challenging, this pandemic.

‘There are days when I’m like “oh God, this lighting isn’t good” I’ll be honest, I have a little light and I think that’s much more flattering. It has absolutely been a learning curve and challenging. It’s been an eye-opener – literally.’

Lisa, who’s engaged to fiancé George Smart, 41, will turn 50 next January and while she’s in disbelief at how quickly the time has gone by since her last milestone birthday – she feels ‘privileged’ growing older.

She said: ‘It seems like such a grownup age! I’m going to be 50, I mean who would have thought it? It’s gone so quickly.

‘I remember organising my 40th and having these conversations like “you’re going to be 40, what do you think?” and now I’m already 50!

‘I do feel positively about it, which I don’t know if people will be like “yeah, whatever” but I really do. I know it’s a cliché to say getting older is a privilege but it really is.

‘I’m not worried, I don’t see it as this looming number or deadline I just feel like I’m finally in a good place, the last six years I’ve felt really content and happy and I’m really taking care of myself so I feel mentally in a really good place as well as physically and emotionally.

‘George and I are really happy and I’ve got some lovely friends and great family so bring it on! As long as I don’t have to act grown up and be sensible then that’s the only thing. I still want to have fun and wear fun clothes and experiment with fashion.’

Lisa has teamed up with skin care brand StriVectin, who have conducted new research on ‘Zoom face’ as 1 in 5 Brits admit to spending half the time on video calls staring at themselves.

StriVectin also found 59 per cent of people felt more aware of their appearance since using FaceTime and Zoom to communicate during lockdown.

Lisa explained: ‘StriVectin is a scientific skin care brand and I have been aware of the brand since the early 2000s.

‘I’m super passionate about the science behind it and the clinical trials and I love the research they have conducted, which is massively important off the back of everything we’ve gone through this last year with Zoom face and us all being on conference calls.

‘We’ve become much more aware of how we look because we are faced with our face for most of those calls and FaceTime and social media.

‘Before you would sit in an office and see your face when you went to the bathroom and washed your hands or put your makeup on in the morning but we see ourselves so much more.

‘When you are faced with your appearance all day long you do want to take more time for you and put a little bit more effort into your skincare regime.’

Lisa has added StriVectin’s Intensive Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles to her beauty regime.

She said: ‘Dark circles are a big problem area for many of us and that was even before the pandemic. The Intensive Eye Concentrate targets fine lines and wrinkles but also the puffiness and the dark circles, which is amazing.

‘The brand is scientific so it really does help to boast that luminosity in the skin, to tighten the skin, it has this amazing ingredient, which is the NIA-114 – it is essentially a vitamin B3 that helps to strengthen the skins’ barrier.’
