American Horror Story’s Lily Rabe signs on to play murder victim Betty Gore opposite Elizabeth Olsen in HBO Max’s Love and Death

Just two months after Elizabeth Olsen has signed on to play murdered Candy Montgomery in HBO Max’s Love and Death, Lily Rabe has come aboard to play victim Betty Gore.

The new series is based on the true story of the grisly 1980 killing of Betty Gore, who was struck 41 times with an axe by Candy Montgomery, with Deadline revealing the news of Rabe’s casting.

The horrific murder rocked the small town of Wylie, Texas, which will serve as the basis for both this series and another show on Hulu starring Elisabeth Moss.

HBO Max handed out a series order for the show back in May, based on ‘Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs’ and a collection of articles from Texas Monthly (Love & Death In Silicon Prairie, Part I & II).

The show will follow the lives of two couples – Candy Montgomery (Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty Gore (Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons).

They are both described as, ‘church-going couples,’ who are enjoying their small-town life in Wylie… until somebody picks up an ax.
