‘Here’s to your jawline that chaps my lips and your hair I can’t keep my hands out of. Here’s to your aesthetic and your art being a close second to your heart.’

He added: ‘Here’s to you making it through thirty-two and here’s to you making history in thirty-three. It’s been so damn pretty falling for you, Kacey.’

Cole, who is a writer, has been linked two Kacey since this June – nearly a year since she and her dashing husband Ruston Kelly announced their divorce.

Kacey marked her birthday on her own Instagram this Saturday by posting 15 brief videos offering a teaser of one of her upcoming songs.

The cryptic words, which tell the story of a heartbreak in which she ‘signed the papers,’ have led to online speculation that she is singing about her own divorce.

‘Let me set the scene: two lovers ripped right at the seams. They woke up from the perfect dream and then the darkness came,’ she croons.

‘I signed the papers yesterday, you came and took your things away, moved out of the house we made and gave you back your name.’

She wonders: ‘What have we done? Did we fly too high just to get burned by the sun?’ and then reflects: ‘No one’s to blame ’cause we called all the angels to save us, called them by name but I guess they got lost….’

Kacey got involved with Ruston in 2018 after meeting at the iconic country music venue the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.

Ruston is a singer-songwriter like Kacey, and the pair worked together during their romance including on a record of Johnny Cash’s poem To June This Morning.

The dynamic duo got married in 2017 and then jointly announced over the summer of 2020 that they were splitting up.

In a profile with Rolling Stone earlier this year she stated that her relationship ‘just simply didn’t work out’ with Ruston.

‘It’s nothing more than that. It’s two people who love each other so much, but for so many reasons, it just didn’t work. I mean, seasons change. Our season changed.’

She confessed: ‘Part of me questions marriage as a whole, in general. I mean, I was open to it when it came into my life. I embraced it. I just have to tell myself I was brave to follow through on those feelings.’

Kacey cited the example of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, who have been together since 1983 but never married, as ‘doing something right.’

The Texas-born crooner explained to the music magazine that ‘I think I live best by myself. I think it’s OK to realize that.’
