Katharine Ross was the It Girl of the Sixties and Seventies as she starred in the hit films The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman as well as Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid with Robert Redford and Paul Newman.
The 81-year-old star prefers a quiet life in Malibu these days away from show business with her actor husband of 37 years Sam Elliott.
But over the weekend the timeless beauty made a rare sighting as she stopped by a post office near her home while in a casual outfit that consisted of worn-in boots and skinny jeans.

The star was born in Hollywood but grew up in Walnut Creek near San Francisco then got the acting bug when she attended college in Santa Rosa, California.
When she moved back to Los Angeles, she struggled: ‘When I first came to Hollywood, I couldn’t afford a telephone,’ she famously said.
She soon landed an agent and her good looks won her attention as she did guest starring roles on TV shows like The Big Valley with Lee Majors in 1965.
Two years later came Katharine’s big hit: 1967’s The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman.

After that commercial hit, she starred with Jason Robards in Fools in 1970.
She became frustrated with her career, turning down many big films, and took a break before returning in 1975’s film The Stepford Wives.
Next she again played Etta Place, this time in a 1976 ABC television film, Wanted: The Sundance Woman, a sequel to Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid.
In 1977 came another hit film, Voyage of the Damned. She was also in The Betsy (1978) and the disaster film The Swarm (1978).

When she co-starred with Elliott in the 1978 horror film The Legacy they fell in love.
The two had already met when he had a small role in Butch Cassidy, but sparks did not fly until Legacy.
They welcomed a daughter named Cleo and wed in 1984.
She went on to make the films Murder In Texas (1981), Travis McGee (1982), The Shadow Riders (1982), Conagher (1991) and The Hero (2017) with Elliott. They were also in the 2015 stage play Love Letters.
In the 1980s she was in the Dynasty spinoff The Colbys as the mother of Jeff Colby.
She was known for not playing up to her looks: in the 1970s she said, ‘There’s a period in one’s life when beauty is very important. For me, it was high school. But I had a grandmother who kept saying, ‘Handsome is as handsome does.’ That’s always stuck with me.’

In the past decade she has become known as the author of children’s books.
Before Elliott she was wed to Gaetano Lisi (1974 to 1979), Conrad Hall (1969 to 1974), John Marion (1964 to 1967) and Joel Fabiani (1960 to 1962).
Meanwhile, her husband has been very active on screen. He starred with Timothy Olyphant and Natalie Zea on the TV series Justified, played Bradley Cooper’s older brother in A Star Is Born and Jane Fonda’s long lost lover in Netflix’s Grace And Frankie.
