Governor Andrew Cuomo‘s youngest daughter Michaela has come out as bisexual in an Instagram post celebrating her ‘queer identity’.
The 23-year-old Brown University graduate opened up about her sexuality in honor of Pride month, sharing two images of herself posing in a ‘gay for you’ baseball cap, with one featuring the rainbow Pride flag and the Pansexual flag in the background.
‘Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo is queer,’ she began her caption, adding: ‘Today I stand in my queer identity with pride.’
Michaela, who is the daughter of Cuomo’s ex-wife Kerry Kennedy, also hit out at Instagram, accusing the photo-sharing app of ‘censoring the LGBTQ community’ as well as words like ‘lesbian and bi’, stating that this had ‘stripped her ability to find queer content’.

Family: The Brown University graduate has taken on a much more public-facing role during the pandemic, throughout which she has been by her father’s side at several press conferences
‘To @instagram when you censor the community and words such as #lesbian and #bi you condemn sexual identities to vulgar fetishes and porn niches,’ she wrote.
‘When you strip my ability to find queer content and community, you damn sexual minorities to exist on the internet only as fringe groups to objectify.
‘If #bi weren’t censored, maybe I could have accessed the information and tools that as a bisexual person I would need to protect myself from increased rates of sexual victimization, homelessness, hunger, unemployment, hate crimes, and mental health challenges.’
Neither Cuomo nor his ex-wife have yet to publicly comment on their daughter’s decision to come out, however Michaela shared a video of herself rollerblading towards her mother while wearing her ‘gay for you’ baseball cap just minutes before her post went live.
Her older sister Mariah also liked the post, but did not share a public comment on it.
Michaela, who joined her father at several press conferences during the coronavirus pandemic, went on to share advice for ‘hetero allies’ on how to best support ‘queer folks’, urging them to ‘speak up against homophobia’ while expressing fears about being ‘ostracized’ because of her sexuality.

Criticism: She also took aim at Instagram for ‘censoring the LGBTQ community and words such as lesbian and bi’, accusing the app of ‘condemning sexual identities to vulgar fetishes’
Proud: She concluded her post by offering a ‘helping hand’ to anyone who is struggling to ’emerge from the closet’
‘To hetero allies, please be mindful that we don’t know who around us is questioning or struggling to embrace their sexual identity,’ she continued.
‘Being pro gay marriage is not enough to assure queer folks that we will not be ostracized for our sexuality. Support your friends by speaking up against homophobia and by actively reaching out to the members of your community who’s sexual expression may be isolating.’
She offered her own support to others within the LGBTQ community, as well as anyone who is struggling to embrace their own sexual identity or speak out about it publicly in a society that ‘force feeds us compulsive heterosexuality’.
‘I stand with a helping hand outreached to those finding their way from under socially constructed boxes to emerge from the closet. I’m standing with you,’ Michaela wrote.
She continued: ‘To those who are contending with the compulsive heterosexuality our society force feeds us and innate attraction beyond cis het folks, please know that you are not alone.

‘To those who have yet to claim their sexual identity due to fear of physical, psychological, or financial safety, please know that you are unconditionally worthy of love and support.
‘To the questioning folks, know that we all reserve the right to change our minds or evolve at anytime. There is nothing wrong with you for not fitting into a limiting, socially constructed box.
‘You will be loved and embraced by those who’s hearts are inclusive enough to earn your expansive energy.’
Michaela and her sisters, twins Mariah and Cara, all currently appear to be staying with their mother at the Kennedy home in Hyannis Port, while Cuomo is understood to still be in New York.
The college graduate – who majored in Education and Human Development with a focus on Social Inequality – also took on a much more public-facing role during the COVID-19 pandemic, when her father enlisted her help with encouraging younger people to adhere to safety guidelines and social distancing.
Michaela joined her father at several press conferences, where she spoke about her own experiences during the pandemic and urged millennials and Gen-Z to stop being reckless while cases were soaring in the state.
She also used social media to promote social distancing and face coverings, sharing several posts on her feed and her Stories about the importance of following New York’s safety guidelines.
