Firefighting Black Hawk helicopter with four on board crashes in Florida

  • A firefighting helicopter on a training flight has crashed in Leesburg, Florida, about 4pm Tuesday
  • The Black Hawk helicopter crashed in heavily wooded area close to Leesburg Airport 
  • By 8pm, rescue crews were still trying to get to the sight to look for survivors, the Orlando Sentinel reported
  • The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating

A firefighting helicopter on a training flight has crashed in Leesburg, Florida, with four people on board.

The crash happened about 4pm Tuesday. There is no word of survivors. 

The Orlando Sentinel reported the Black Hawk helicopter crashed in heavily wooded marshland close to Leesburg Airport.

By 8pm, rescue crews were still trying to get to the sight to look for survivors, the Sentinel reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

A local journalist Summer Knowles tweeted: ‘FAA says a firefighting helicopter crashed into a marsh near Leesburg Airport during a training exercise this afternoon. Four people were on board. 

‘The FAA and NTSB will investigate, but the NTSB will be in charge of the investigation.’
