The FBI is investigating whether Governor Andrew Cuomo‘s senior aides lied to Justice Department officials about the number of coronavirus deaths at New York state nursing homes, according to a new report.

The New York Times on Friday reported that federal authorities have conducted interviews with state Health Department officials and have subpoenaed Cuomo’s office for documents related to the submission of the data last year.

The report comes hours after an eighth woman accused the embattled governor of sexual harassment.

Earlier this week a New York nursing home administrator revealed staff were ‘petrified’ at Gov. Cuomo‘s order to send Covid patients to care facilities rather than hospitals last March.

Michael Kraus from Staten Island said he raised his concerns but they were ‘shot down’ by state officials.

Thousands of people have died in New York state nursing homes and long-term care facilities from the virus and many have blamed the high toll on Cuomo’s order, which was rescinded in May 2020.

Kraus told Fox News: ‘Many facilities vocalized it. They were petrified, but they were more petrified of the Department of Health.

‘We can’t be doing this, it’s just not right for the residents.

‘I did vocalize it but once it was shot down, I never spoke again.’

In March last year, Governor Cuomo ordered nursing homes to accept Covid-19 patients into their facilities, despite many struggling with staffing issues and large numbers of Covid cases.

Critics say the order forced vulnerable patients into a virus hotbed, causing the deaths of at least 15,000 people.

But as recently as January, the state reported only 8,500 deaths amid accusations of a cover-up.
