Exclusive: Stakes Are Raised in the Explosive Season Two Trailer for Power Book II: Ghost

If this one minute and 25 second peek is any indication, season two of Power Book II: Ghost is about to be a wild ride. The death of Professor Jabari Reynolds is officially a high-profile murder case—and the catalyst for all sorts of new drama in the life of Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr).

Our exclusive clip features Larenz Tate making his return as Councilman Rashad Tate,Redman guest-starring as Theo Rollins (brother of Method Man’s character, Davis Maclean), and 50 Cent reprising his role as the sinister soul of Kanan Stark. Also back in action are Gianni Paolo as Tariq’s right-hand man Brayden Weston and Paige Hurd as Lauren Baldwin, Tariq’s classmate and budding love interest. Both stars had a few (not too many, though!) tidbits to share with POPSUGAR about what we can expect from their characters this season.

“I think Brayden and Tariq’s relationship is super similar to Tommy and Ghost’s,” Paolo says. “Although we have a ton of differences and we’re not the same characters at all, our relationship is definitely ingrained in that original Tommy and Ghost Power relationship. So you’re going to see a lot of that in season two.”

As things heat up at Stansfield University, tensions between the young women in Tariq’s life follow suit; a quick cut finds him in the middle of an argument between Diana Tejada (LaToya Tonodeo) and Effie Morales (Alix Lapri). According to Hurd, Lauren’s relationship with Tariq won’t be any less tricky in season two either. “You know, they’re in college, doing what college kids do,” she says. “I think that they are very complicated, just like kids would be at that age. And I think they’re both just trying to figure themselves out. But they do have this friendship where they’re kind of trying to do it at all the same time, keeping their friendship while also being complicated. They’re all over the place.”

I tasked Paolo with giving me one word to describe the season, and the answer is especially appetizing for fans of the show.

“For some reason, ‘depth’ is coming to me, because you get in-depth in every character’s head this season, and you understand why they’re doing things,” he says.”You can’t really do that in the first ten episodes. Now, it’s like okay, we know who these people are, let’s get in depth as to why they’re doing things. I think that’s what people are going to love this season.”

Hurd on the other hand, is too geeked to pin one word down. “I’m excited. We’ve been waiting on this for so long, and I just feel like I’ve been waiting forever. Now that we have the date, it’s creeping. I’m ready. It’s time.”

Season two of Power Book II: Ghost premieres on Starz on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 8p.m.ET
