A woman in labor ended a wild ride in a Tesla in New York City Sunday by giving birth to a baby girl.

The woman and her husband – who have not been identified – were in a black X model Tesla at around 4 p.m. in traffic in front of 585 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, according to police.

The expectant father told the authorities that he was trying to get to a nearby hospital after his spouse’s waters broke, but that he thought they wouldn’t be able to make it in time, so they called 911 for help.

‘Officers began escorting the vehicle to NYU Medical Center but had to reroute to [the hospital] due to heavy traffic,’ said NYPD Sergeant Edward Riley.

The New York Post reported that the ‘falcon-winged doors’ of the car, which open vertically, came in handy, because it allowed the new mother and her newborn to get out of the car and onto a gurney.

The car has a list price starting at $105,000.

An EMS crew eventually arrived and the mother and her new baby, a girl, were both safely taken to the hospital and are healthy and happy, according to police.

Surprisingly, this is not the first time this year that a woman has given birth in a Tesla in the New York area.

Back in January, Allison Goldfarb gave birth to son Jordan a week ahead of schedule in the front seat near the George Washington Bridge.
