Dexter: New Blood trailer reveals the return of Jennifer Carpenter’s Deb and son Harrison

With less than two months before Dexter: New Blood premieres on Showtime, the network revealed a new trailer with a few surprises.

The trailer offers the first look at Jennifer Carpenter’s Deb, who Dexter (Michael C. Hall) killed in the series finale back in 2013, and now serves as an imaginary ‘moral compass’ for the serial killer, much like how his late father Harry (James Remar) did in the original series.

The trailer also ends with quite the surprising twist, revealing that Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott) has somehow managed to track down his dad.

The trailer begins with Dexter, now known as Jim Lindsay, driving in his truck when he gets pulled over by a cop, as he eyes the cleaver in the front seat.

The cop is seen approaching the vehicle carefully, with ‘Jim’ asking if there’s a problem, while covering up his cleaver.

The female officer, Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), asks him to step out of the vehicle and frisks him… but it’s all a ruse as they start making out while the dispatcher calls for her.

The trailer (set to Iggy Pop’s I Am a Passenger, a reference to Dexter’s ‘dark passenger’) shows Jim Lindsay walking through the sleepy town of Iron Lake, New York, when he’s greeted by some teenagers.

‘Go Hawks!’ he says as they pass, before going to his job at Fred’s Fish & Game, where he works as a ‘sales associate.’

‘This is my life,’ Dexter says in voice over, as he’s seen handing out donuts to co-workers and showing off hunting vests for customers.

‘A wolf among sheep,’ he continues, as he’s seen chopping wood before walking into the Iron Lake police station, where he sees another missing kid was reported.

He overhears Angela saying, ‘no bodies, no pattern,’ as the trailer cuts to a young girl hitchhiking who gets into a semi truck, as Angela tells Jim, ‘there’s always a reason.’

Dexter is seen sharpening his cleaver, asking himself, ‘If she’s right, how many other victims are there?’

We then get our first glimpse at Deb, who bluntly tells Dexter, ‘You’re a serial killer. You love that you’re getting away with murder and you cannot wait to kill again.’

‘Have you learned nothing?’ she tells him outside by a fire, as we also get a glimpse at this season’s big villain, though his face is covered by a ski mask as he shoots a young girl running away from his home in the woods.

The trailer winds down with a number of dramatic shots as Dexter says, ‘It’s a scary world out there. Monsters walk among us. I might still be a monster, but I’m an evolving monster.’

The final shot finds Dexter returning home, finding a young kid looking around, when Dexter asks what he’s doing.

‘Are you Dexter Morgan? It’s me, your son,’ he says, as Dexter says, ‘Harrison,’ as the trailer comes to an end.
