Dave Hughes has promised The Masked Singer fans the new season will feature a bevy of overseas talent – despite Lindsay Lohan being unable to return as a judge due to international border restrictions.

‘I’ve been told by the producers that there is more international stars on the show this year,’ the comedian, 50, told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Obviously with this Covid-era Australia has become a sanctuary for international superstars and apparently we’ve got a number of them on the show, so God knows who’s going to be behind the mask,’ he said.

When asked what his thoughts about Lohan not returning for the new season, he said: ‘I miss Lindsay. She’s one of a kind individual.’

Comparing working with the American actress to South African-New Zealand comedian Urzila Carlson, he said: ‘They’re both superstars, but they’re very different.

‘Urzila is still trying to deal with the bouquets of roses I left over from when Lindsay was on the show.’

The Mean Girls star announced that she won’t be returning to the judging panel last month as she is unable to travel due to border restrictions.

‘We couldn’t do it again due to Covid still,’ the Parent Trap star told TV Blackbox.

It comes as production company Warner Bros. was forced to scrap plans for a live studio audience at Carriageworks due to Sydney’s escalating Covid-19 situation.

Instead, they arranged for a virtual audience to watch the celebrities perform.

The show’s official Instagram account posted a call-out earlier this month for fans of the show to get ‘involved in Australia’s favourite guessing game’.

The Masked Singer Australia is set to return to Channel 10 later this year.
