Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley film on horseback for series 2 at Windsor Great Park

The upcoming series will focus Anthony Bridgerton‘s search for love.

And actor Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley, who will take on the role of Kate Sharma, looked every inch the leading stars as they filmed action packed scenes at Windsor Great Park on Thursday.

Jonathan, 33, cut a dapper figure in a long black coat and leather boots as he confidently galloped across the grass before meeting up with his cloaked co-star, 26, for a calmer trot.

Please, not another duel! Anthony Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey was seen riding on horseback while filming scenes for the upcoming second series of the hit Netflix show at Windsor Great Park on Thursday

Jonathan sported a long black jacket and smart white shirt for the shoot, adding a black hat and a pair of black leather riding boots to complete his costume.

He rode a black horse and sported a slightly strained expression, suggesting all might not be well during the action-packed scene he was working on.

Bridgerton fans previously saw Jonathan on horseback during series one when the eldest brother raced to duel the Duke Of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page) and defend his sister Daphne’s (Phoebe Dynevor) honour.

Newcomer Simone also appeared confident during the outdoor shoot, wearing an emerald green dress under a dark hooded cloak.

As she quickly galloped across the grass, clearly in a rush, her white stockings could be seen peaking out from under several layers of skirt.

Simone also raced through white smoke which surrounded several gazebos and covered areas that had been set up by the crew.

After horse riding separately, the actors slowly trotted along a path together, with Jonathan taking the lead and Simone following behind on her own horse.

It is thought that the new leading duo have undergone horse riding training with a stunt team for the filming at Windsor Great Park, with both actors looking like naturals as they worked on the horses.

Jonathan and Simone were also seen filming together back in April, when they worked on a crowd scene set at Royal Ascot which saw the actress don a striking peacock blue gown.

And last month, several cast members including Jessica Madsen who plays Cressida Cowper donned their stunning costumes and wigs to film at at Greenwich’s Old Royal Naval College.

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, was also seen filming for the new season for the first time last week, with the star stepping out in Greenwich to reprise her role.

And with filming now having kicked off now, fans can hopefully expect a season two release date in 2022 – pandemic permitting.

The show’s creator Chris Van Dusen has promised viewers a love story ‘as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as viewers have come to expect’, despite the absence of heartthrob Rege-Jean Page as The Duke Of Hastings.

The first season focused on the romance between Daphne, played by Phoebe, and Simon, Duke of Hastings, the role which Rege-Jean bade farewell to earlier this year– to the dismay of his many fans.

Bridgerton has been renewed for a second, third and fourth season with Netflix, and the next season is based on Julia Quinn’s second Bridgerton novel The Viscount Who Loved Me.

The book sees Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) go on the hunt for a suitable bride when he meets Kate and Edwina Sheffield, renamed Sharma for the show.

In the romantic novel, Kate and Anthony spar as he tries to secure Edwina’s hand – tension that leads, naturally, to the adversaries falling madly in love with one another.

Simone was announced to be playing Kate, and her character’s surname has been altered to reflect Simone’s South-Asian background.

The show has been praised for mixing up tired casting, and featuring BAME cast members in prominent societal roles such as Regé-Jean as the Duke of Hastings, Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, and Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury.

In February, star Jonathan promised the show’s second season will feature plenty of steamy sex scenes because they are ‘at the heart’ of the show in an interview with The Mirror.

Reflecting on the show, the actor said: ‘The thing that’s so at the heart of Bridgerton is intimacy and identity and sexuality – and so of course that’s something we’re going to have to make sure we continue with.

‘The amazing producers will work magic, I’m sure, to make sure we still get the steaminess that we all deserve.’

Fans were left shocked recently when breakout star Page, 31, revealed he wouldn’t be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings in the groundbreaking period drama.

His appearance came after Bridgerton’s executive producer Shonda ‘dismissed’ the idea of creative differences being the reason behind his exit from the Netflix show.

In a recent interview, she addressed the actor’s departure from the popular period drama for the first time, saying she was ‘shocked’ at the fans’ response to the news.

Yet she shut down talk that she was behind the decision, telling Vanity Fair: ‘There’s a lot of fantastically interesting talk that’s been going on, mainly cause I think people are having a hard time letting go.’

She also dismissed claims that Regé-Jean turned down a deal for cameo appearances in Bridgerton’s second season, after it was reported that his lesser role in the next season was behind his reason to quit the show.

Reiterating that she had only made a one-season deal with the star, Shonda said she didn’t expect ‘this much of an explosion’ from the viewers.

Netflix said in the first 28 days that the show was online, Bridgerton was streamed in 82 million households, and it came as little surprise when it was renewed for a second season in January.
