BREAKING NEWS: Court officer shoots himself dead in Manhattan family court bathroom

A court officer fatally shot himself while in the in the bathroom of Manhattan’s family court on Monday afternoon.
The officer who has not been named was believed to be in his 50s.
He shot himself in the head just after 3:10pm at the building located at 60 Lafayette Street.
A fellow court officer then called 911 telling the emergency services that she believed he had shot himself intentionally.

The man from Staten Island was pronounced dead at the scene but his name and age have so far not been released.
‘It’s just a tragedy,’ New York State Court Officers Association President Dennis Quirk said to the New York Post.
‘The union delegate was with him this morning. No problem, he was happy as could be and went into the bathroom and did it.’
Quirk said the man was a ‘great officer’ and had been in his post for more than 15 years.
‘The brothers are very close to him, and they are extremely upset,’ said Quirk.
The NYPD has also not yet released any details.
