‘It’s hard to say no to her’: Rose Byrne’s partner Bobby Cannavale reveals how Melissa McCarthy convinced him to take on his role in their new show Nine Perfect Strangers

Last year, Bobby Cannavale was one of many high-profile American actors who headed Down Under.

And in a new interview with News.com.au, the 51-year-old star revealed he was convinced by good friend Melissa McCarthy to take on a role in their new Amazon Prime series, Nine Perfect Strangers, which was filmed in the idyllic Byron Bay with a star-studded cast.

Bobby, who is the partner of Australian actress Rose Byrne, told the publication that he signed up because he could tell how much Melissa, 50, loved the script.

Motivated by Melissa: Last year, US star Bobby Cannavale moved to Australia to film Nine Perfect Strangers. In an interview with News.com.au, the 51-year-old revealed he was convinced by fellow star and good friend Melissa McCarthy to join the Amazon Prime series. Pictured on the show

‘She texted me and said, “I’m going to do this thing, you should read it because this character is so great for you, I’ve never seen you play this, it would be you and me again,”‘ he said.

‘It’s very, very hard to say no to her, because she gets so excited about it,’ added Bobby.

While the eight-part series – based on The New York Times bestselling book from Australian author Liane Moriarty – recently wrapped up filming in Byron Bay, Bobby said his main reason for taking on his role was to work alongside Melissa.

‘I just love working with Melissa. You never know what you’re going to get, but you know it’s going to be good,’ he told the publication.

The story is set in a wellness spa in which emotionally bruised guests come to heal and work through their demons.

Bobby plays Tony, an ex-footballer who is forced to attend Tranquilum due to his  anger issues and substance abuse.

In the show, Bobby’s character shares the majority of his scenes with Melissa’s character Frances, an odd pairing of two characters who are acquainted with one another under bad circumstances.

Despite starting on rocky grounds, the two characters form an undeniable relationship in the drama-series.

In the past, Bobby and McCarthy have enjoyed working alongside one another on projects like Spy, Superintelligence and Thunder Force.
