Lauren Curtis, from Perth, said the ‘number one thing’ she and her partner Reece enjoy is having the freedom to do what they want and focus on themselves and their goals.

‘I’m always thinking to myself “gosh, imagine how different my life would be if I was responsible for a child right now”,’ the 28-year-old said in a YouTube video

Lauren explained how for as long as she can remember she has never considered having children or getting married.

The pair are comfortable with their lives, don’t want to focus on any other aspect and don’t want to feel the financial burden that’s associated with having children.

Choosing to have children is a massive personal decision that often stems from values correlating to family.

In the video Lauren said Reece has a huge family but he is happy only being an uncle, while Lauren only desires prioritising herself over starting a family.

She also doesn’t believe she would cope well in the ‘chaos’ of raising children.

‘I need to have the ability to do what I want when I want because that is fundamental to who I am and makes me feel relaxed, grounded and at peace with myself,’ she said.

‘People often say to me ‘how sad’… it’s such a weird thing to say – I know you enjoy something so much that you want other people to feel the joy you experience from that particular thing,’ she said.

‘But that’s only because those are your values… it’s like saying to vegan ‘how sad that you’re choosing not to eat meat’ but then they would say ‘how sad that you’re choosing to eat meat.’

Lauren said other women have told her to expect that ‘everything will change’ once she reaches a certain age, which she finds hard to believe.

‘Maybe we’ll just wait and see, but how can you go your entire life very passionately not wanting something then all of a sudden your maternal instincts kick-in and then your whole life is changed afterwards?’ she said.
