TALK OF THE TOWN: BBC Olympics presenter Gabby Logan’s daughter Lois, 16, qualifies for Horse Of The Year Show

Mum was a Commonwealth Games gymnast and dad is a former Scottish rugby international, but could Lois Logan eclipse even their sporting achievements?

The 16-year-old daughter of BBC Olympics presenter Gabby Logan and husband Kenny last week qualified for the prestigious Horse Of The Year Show.

I’m pleased to report that she and her skewbald pony Oreo Patches won two classes at the British Showjumping National Championships and will now compete at the sport’s flagship event at the NEC in Birmingham in October.

The teenager’s love of all things equestrian clearly runs deep.

Even the photograph taken with her 48-year-old mother earlier this year, comes from the premiere of the comedy-drama movie Dream Horse, which tells the true story of amateur owners whose grit and determination got their horse all the way to the Welsh Grand National.

Given her early success in the saddle, maybe they’ll be making films about Lois before too long.

It’s been a torrid year for hedge fund tycoon Crispin Odey – he had to clear his name in court after being accused of indecently assaulting a junior banker and then endure divorce from his wife of 30 years Nichola Pease.

But I hear he has now found comfort in the arms of a mystery blonde.

My society spies in Devon tell me 62-year-old Crispin, who is worth £825 million, has been seen with a rather glamorous lady at dinner parties there.

Is Crispin’s year looking up?

After revealing that the late multi-millionaire gambling tycoon Stuart Wheeler had left the family seat – Chilham Castle in Kent – to charity rather than his three daughters, I can share another bizarre twist.

I’m told Stuart told his girls Sarah, Charlotte and society model Jacquetta that they can take up to £100,000 worth of mementoes each.

A family friend tells me that, while the entire contents of most people’s homes wouldn’t be worth that much, the girls were spoiled for choice. Indeed, the big problem was that many of the artworks and antiques were too big to fit in their new homes.

I am told that in the end some rather lovely mirrors featured among the daughters’ choices. In years to come, perhaps they might help them reflect on what they’ve missed out on…
