Arnold Schwarzenegger calls daughter Katherine ‘expert gatekeeper’ of his granddaughter Lyla

Arnold Schwarzenegger called his daughter Katherine an ‘expert gatekeeper’ of his granddaughter Lyla on Monday during a talk show visit.

The 73-year-old actor while appearing remotely on Jimmy Kimmel Live opened up about becoming a grandfather for the first time after Katherine, 31, and husband Chris Pratt, 41, welcomed their baby girl Lyla last August.

‘Fantastic,’ Arnold said of being a grandfather.

‘The only thing is it makes me feel old,’ he added.

‘It’s really great having a grandchild. It’s a beautiful, beautiful baby. Baby Lyla. I’m very proud of Katherine and Chris and they’re doing really great together as parents,’ Arnold said.

Jimmy, 53, noted that Arnold has farm animals roaming around his house with his mini donkey and horse and predicted that Lyla was going to go ‘crazy’ when she realizes her grandfather lives in a ‘petting zoo’.

‘Oh, she has already been over here several times at the house and she’s sat on top of Lulu and Whiskey and I think she’s going to be a great horseback rider,’ Arnold said referencing some of his animals.

Jimmy then asked Arnold if he’s done any baby-sitting or changing diapers with Lyla.

‘I did all of that when I had kids. When my kids were growing up, I participated and it was a lot of fun to do that. But I have never changed diapers on Lyla because I think that Katherine is the expert gatekeeper,’ Arnold said.

‘Whenever you touch the baby she says, ”Oh my god, oh my god, don’t hold her like this”. I say, ”Katherine, come on now. I’ve held enough children in my hands.” I say ”I know exactly what I’m doing, I’m an expert at that stuff”. She just freaks out. I think it’s natural,’ Arnold said.

‘It’s fun,’ he added.

Jimmy also brought up Caitlyn Jenner, 71, recently announcing her campaign to become California governor and said she was ‘no doubt’ inspired by Arnold’s successful win in a 2003 special recall election to become governor.

‘Do you think Caitlyn Jenner has any chance of winning this election?,’ Jimmy asked.

‘Anyone has a chance because I think that people are dissatisfied with what’s going on here in California and I hope that as many people as possible are jumping in the race and going for it,’ Arnold said.

He said the key for Caitlyn or anyone else was to have a clear vision of where they want to go, know the changes they want to make and explain why they are qualified to become governor.

Jimmy also showed an old photo of Arnold with Tommy Chong, 82, from the 1970s and the former bodybuilder admitted they used to smoke pot together after meeting in Venice Beach.

‘He actually taught me to not smoke a whole joint and just have a few hits to work out that way. So I started working out with a few hits before we went to the gym and worked out this way. And it was really fantastic, actually,’ Arnold said to applause.

He added that he stopped smoking pot after winning his sixth Mr. Olympia title in 1975 because he wanted to complete a business degree and pursue acting and hasn’t smoked a joint since.
