A pair of anti-abortion activists who have gained notoriety by picketing outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Manhattan and defacing Black Lives Matter murals have boasted about relying on the far-right group Proud Boys for security.
Edmee Chavannes, 39, and Bevelyn Beatty, 29, have been traveling around the country promoting the pro-life cause, and were in Washington DC, on January 6 but denied entering the US Capitol building, or resorting to violence.
In early February, New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a federal lawsuit against the duo, accusing them of harassing and intimidating women seeking to enter Planned Parenthood of Greater New York’s Manhattan Health Center on Bleecker Street.

Chavannes and Beatty were sued last month by New York Attorney General Letitia James for allegedly harassing people outside this Planned Parenthood clinic in Manhattan
Beatty and Chavannes have been picketing abortion clinics around the US since 2018
‘For almost 50 years, Roe v Wade has made clear the right of women to control their own bodies,’ James stated at the time. ‘Despite the clear protections under the law, these individuals used violent and illegal tactics to harass, threaten, and block women from entering Planned Parenthood.
‘Let me be very clear: no person, no business, and no government body has the right to deny or limit a woman’s access to an abortion, and I will continue to do everything within my legal power to support the reproductive rights of women.’
The lawsuit seeks to bar Beatty, Chavannes and their supporters from protesting directly outside the clinic, and to stop them from using ‘threats, intimidation, or physical tactics’ against patients.
An unnamed source close to the two activists has alleged to the New York Daily News that they have been targeting Planned Parenthood locations around the US since 2018.
During some of the protests, Chavannes and Beatty were protected by Proud Boys – a far-right, male chauvinist extremist group that seized on Donald Trump administration’s policies and was a major agitator during earlier protests and the Capitol riot on January 6.
Beatty bragged in this June 2020 that Proud Boys took her and Chavannes under their protection during protests in Seattle

‘Those young men, every time I needed a security detail, they were there for me,’ Beatty confirmed to the news outlet.
Proud Boys have been sighted at anti-abortion protests at Planned Parenthood clinics around the US since 2017.
In June 2020, Beatty and Chavannes bragged in a YouTube video that members of the group, which is classified by the FBI as an extremist organization, protected them while they were ‘ministering the gospel’ in Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) during last year’s Black Lives Matter protests.
‘Proud Boys, we want to thank you guys! The same ones people call Nazis — them Nazis came and they stood…. them guys came strapped up, wrapped up, exercising their 2nd Amendment, holding it down for us, making sure we were safe. So kudos, God bless Proud Boys,’ Beatty said in the video.
Chavannes added: ‘they came, provided security…they were the ones to say: “you need to preach”…they set us aside to make sure that we had a spot to still preach.’
Beatty made headlines last June when she was photographed vandalizing the Black Lives Matter mural on Fifth Avenue in New York City
Just hours later, she poured paint on another BLM mural in Brooklyn
Just days later, Beatty and Chavannes, dressed in ‘Jesus Matters’ T-shirts, were arrested for pouring black paint on the Black Lives Matter mural outside of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue while yelling ‘re-fund the police.’
Both of the women were charged with criminal mischief and later released.
But within hours, Beatty filmed herself conducting a ‘drive-by painting’ in Harlem and later in Brooklyn, where two more BLM murals were vandalized with black paint.
Beatty and Chavannes say they disagree with Black Lives Matter because the racial justice protesters do not necessarily oppose abortion.
‘They’re fraudulent hypocrites … and I believe all lives matter because God created them,’ Beatty told Fox News last year.

On Election Day, Beatty, who is an avid Trump supporters, said she was with Proud Boys leader Henry ‘Enrique’ Tarrio and his cohorts in Washington DC when they tried to thwart a robbery in progress, and the 29-year-old anti-abortion activist was stabbed three times.
Beatty recovered from her injuries and was back in DC on January 6, when supporters of Donald Trump attacked the US Capitol in a bid to overturn the results of the election and keep him in power.
‘Me and Edmee went to the Capitol yesterday,’ Beatty said the day after the riot, which left five people dead. ‘Did Trump people storm the Capitol? Yes. But did we break into the Capitol? No.’
