Formerly known as the MTV Movie Awards, the annual show sees winners presented with the “golden popcorn” statue and has traditionally been tied to the start of the summer blockbuster season for the film industry.
However, like with all recent award shows, viewers can expect to see changes given the current pandemic that has seen many blockbusters pushed back since early last year.
The nominees are decided by producers and executives at MTV, and since 2007, polls for several awards have been voted on through MTV’s web and social media presences.
It was cancelled last year due to lockdown restrictions, and MTV instead aired a one-off December special hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time.

The second awards ceremony, MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted, will air Monday 17.
