Chelsea’s Penalties Create Smoother Alley for Arsenal to Win

Chelsea has recently advanced in the League Cup attributed to its 3rd penalty shootout win of their season. Arsenal had a much smoother path into the quarterfinals as they are less reliant on the penalty shots game as of now.

Reece James potted the penalty kick that delivered Chelsea’s 4 to 3 win versus Southampton in the shootout at Stamford Bridge recently. The match was tied 1 to 1 through the first ninety minutes on Tuesday, October 26th, 2021.

This occurred following the Kai Havertz header for Chelsea just before the half – break although that score was cancelled out by Che Adams’ tap-in goal two minutes into the second half.

Southampton witnessed Theo Walcott’s penalty shot saved by the Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and the Southampton center midfielder Will Smallbone’s shoot over noticed by visiting goalkeeper Fraser Forster denied only by Mason Mount.

Thomas Tuchel’s side just so happens to be the Premier League – leaders, who have reached the 4th round by beating Aston Villa on penalty kicks (OT), have also began the season by coming out victorious in the UEFA Super Cup in once again another shootout against Villarreal in August of 2021.

What do you know? There just so happened to be another all – Premier League battle in London, England at Emirates Stadium in which Arsenal defeated Leeds with a final tally of 2 to 0.

Calum Chambers positioned Arsenal in front due to his sweet 1st – touch after replacing the injured Benjamin White, heading in a knock back from Nicolas Pépé during the intense 55th minute. It just so happened to be the defender’s first goal score since way back in 2019.

Eddie Nketiah, who previously spent a little time on loan at Leeds recently, doubled Arsenal’s advantage with his own personal strike. Nketiah latched on to an extremely weak defensive header attributed to bitch – ass Liam Cooper, rounded the goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, and came close to missing an easy tap-in just prior to being able to celebrate.

Arsenal has now come out victorious in 6 of their last 8 matches in all competitions, and they have been unbeaten since August of 2021, but they are only in 10th – place in the highly – contested Premier League.

There inevitably will be a 3rd – division team in the final 8 following the Sunderland defeat of the 2nd – tier Queens Park Rangers who finished 3 to 1 on penalty kicks after the match at Loftus Road in West London ended with a final score of 0 to 0 after the set 90 minutes of play.

The quarterfinal lineup will be finalized on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021 when Manchester City resumes their bid for a 5th consecutive League Cup against West Ham, Burnley hosts Tottenham, Leicester plays Brighton, Liverpool faces – off against the 2nd – tier club Preston, and Brentford visits Stoke.
